ChattART Selected Accomplishments 1987-present
- Georgia state-wide ban on phosphates (us 100%)
- Lawsuit against Atlanta sewage dumping - won (most was done by the Georgia Environmental Project, we played a small, but significant part)
- Largest “Bass Master” Magazine article in their history (about water quality)
- Georgia Adopt-a-Stream program (us and Laurie Hawks with DNR 100%)
- Keynote Speaker at Georgia State University Earth Day 20th Anniversary
- Worked with the first Bush Administration (White House) on gas mileage, defense, etc
- Helped to set up the “Chattahoochee Riverkeeper” program (one of the original founders)
- Received proclamations endorsing our effort from a dozen plus counties and the state of Georgia.
- Worked on a number of movies that have been shown on GPTV statewide, also generated numerous magazine and newspaper articles (over 1 million articles printed in the early ‘90’s)
- First ever to kayak the entire Chattahoochee (1990 to focus attention on the river)
- Rediscovered “Chattahoochee Old Town” (Brush Creek Park), owned by the Corps of Engineers, leased to Heard County, managed by ChattART for 14 years. It was the first time in over 100 years that any government department made a profit for the county.
- National Solstice Project (Economic Development 2012)
- Worked with a group of Native Americans (Seminoles) to find lost “Chattahoochees”, the red-marked rocks that the river was originally named for. (see picture)
- The leader of ChattART is responsible for ChattART’s home county of Heard, receiving over $1 million in grant money (more than any other individual in the county)
- Worked with Congressman and Senators on a number of projects
- Worked with county Sheriff's department for 14 years on county sponsored Easter Egg Hunt 5,000 + Easter Eggs hidden each year, over 500 Easter Baskets provided by ChattART to low-income and DFACS children.
- Calculators for Kindergartens, Years ago low math scores in the county prompted ChattART to provide calculators for local students. The outcome- higher math scores!
- Chattahoochee Greenway Trail- A beautiful hike along the river in Heard County
